The world has been patiently watching the unfolding saga of the Chilean miners trapped in a mine. Miners in Chili alive. Nobody knew how or when they would be rescued though. National Aeronautics and Space Administration went to help save the miners. It went to the location to help advice rescue crews and miners. It is envisioned that it might take months to retrieve the men. There is a rescue shaft getting drilled though it is taking a when.
Chile gets NASA in there
. Engineers and scientists from NASA have to get supplies to any of the miners under 2,200 feet of rock. The Washington Post explains that you will find 33 men within the chamber that has three four inch wide tubes going down to them. There is one tube that oxygen goes down. An additional tube makes sure supplies are getting there. The last tube makes it possible to have video conference with the miners. The real concern is about the tube. How are they going to receive supplies down a four inch tube?
Advice given with encouragement
The Washington Post just lately conducted an interview with Jerry Linenger, a previous National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronaut. The Mir space station in 1997 trapped three Astronauts with a fire, although Linenger was the only American there. Linenger’s advice to the men was that they have to stay busy, however not get their hopes up. Depression and despair happen sometimes. This is only if expectations are too high and aren’t met. He explained that it is important to work as a team. There shouldn’t be any one person in charge of everything.
Camp Hope
Rescue workers, family members and support staff are in an encampment around the mine called Camp Hope. The mining company hopes forgiveness is in the near future. It is going to go bankrupt soon if this continues. The company is not paying the trapped miners’ wages.
